AN INTIMATE WEDDING IN VENICE!! FREAKING VENICE!!
I had to pinch myself (quite hard, might I add!) when Hannah and Stean got in touch with me for their wedding in Venice, Italy in September last year! I met Hannah years ago as we studied Fashion Design together at University where she also met Stean, so I was chuffed to bits for them when they announced their engagement – not to mention they are darn bloody perfect for one another!
For as long as I can remember I have wanted to travel to Venice, so when the opportunity came to not only visit Venice but to shoot an intimate wedding there I literally couldn’t believe my luck – so it’s safe to say I bit their hand off when they asked me to join their closest friends and family to photograph their wedding!
I simply cannot begin to describe how unique and special Venice really is, I have never experienced a City like it and probably never will do. It has such a relaxed and cool vibe, you can really take the time to take in and enjoy the City for what it is. I say this because we travelled to Rome after the wedding which was on the opposite end of the spectrum – there was so much to see and do that we were constantly rushing around trying to cram everything in to the short time we were there, but Venice is completely different. Sure, if you’re anything like me and Anthony you’ll constantly get lost (because every building is so tall and streets so narrow, that you feel like you’re navigating your way through a maze!) but that’s all part of the experience, as you stumble upon quirky wine bars and back street Italian restaurants. The day before the wedding it rained through the night which caused St.Marco Square to flood (which apparently happens a lot!) so we rolled up our pants and walked barefoot through the square, with water up to our knees, sat down at one of the very expensive wine bars with a very expensive glass of wine and just had the best time. Just thinking about our time spent there warms my heart, I’m dying to go back!
The wedding day itself was everything I imagined and more. Hannah and Stean said their vows in the incredibly beautiful San Zulian Church, followed by champagne on a Gondola Tour which was SO FUN, then after their couples portraits in San Marco Square and through the backstreets of Venice we made our way to the Westin Hotel Europa & Regina for their reception overlooking the Grand Canal – sounds idyllic right? It was!
THE FOOD… Oh the food! Hannah and Stean chose a stunning three course meal for their wedding breakfast which was de-licious! I’m going to tell you what we had because it was so good and if you’re a foodie like me you’ll appreciate it! Herb ravioli with walnut sauce to start, followed by roast beef medallion with roesti and cherry tomatoes au gratin and traditional Venetian tiramisu for dessert – YUM!
THE ATTIRE… I absolutely loved Hannah’s bespoke, vintage style wedding dress which her friend Sarah made especially for her!! She matched this with a beaded shawl and she looked absolutely stunning! I also loved the colour combination for Stean’s suit – the colours complimented Hannah’s wedding dress and the Bridesmaids dresses perfectly. Now, I would usually squirm at the idea of ‘fake’ flowers however Hannah had flown over dried floral bouquets from The Sleeping Flower Company and I was very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful they were! So if you’re looking for an alternative to fake flowers for your wedding, I would highly recommend looking at dried flowers!
Hannah and Stean’s wedding was SUCH a pleasure to be a part of, guys you were awesome to work with and your friends and family were so welcoming, thank you so much for having me! Can we do it all over again?
NOW ON TO THE PHOTOS! ENJOY!
Oh, and if you’re planning a destination wedding in Venice, or anywhere for that matter and like what you see, get in touch! Let’s have a coffee (I say coffee, but really I mean wine!)
