In August last year I had the pleasure of photographing Sam & Joanna’s Lake Windermere wedding at The Belsfield Hotel. It was my first Lake District wedding (I absolutely LOVE the Lake District and can’t wait to return this year and next for weddings!) and it truly didn’t disappoint!
The Belsfield Hotel by Laura Ashley literally has the ‘wow’ factor… it’s STUNNING!! Laura Ashley is one of my favourite stores for home decor, so I can easily say I was in my element photographing in this beautiful venue. The Belsfield really suited the whole vibe of Sam & Jo’s day… being beautiful, elegant and classy.
My favourite moment of the whole day was seeing Sam & Joanna’s face when Jo’s sister Emma surprised them with, quite honestly, the best speech EVER! I literally rave about this speech and will never forget it. Emma had not only surprised them with video clips from Michelle Keegan, Jess Glynne & Les Mills Rachael Newsham, but also Jo’s school children… I don’t think there were a dry eye in the room, including my own!
Absolutely amazing day, thank you so much for sharing it with me!

How their journey started…
We met at sixth form in 2006. We’ve been together eight and a half years and got engaged after seven and a half years.
Planning the wedding…
We found the planning process quite stress free because our family helped us so much. The Belsfield Hotel were great at helping us meet wedding deadlines too.
Their wedding location…
We knew we wanted to get married away from home but not too far away. We decided on the Belsfield Hotel because it was light and had been recently renovated in Laura Ashley decor. It looked incredible!
I absolutely love embellishment and I wanted my gown and bridesmaid dresses to have this feature in. I wanted the mens suits to be traditional, so we chose tails for this reason.
We decided to buy all our centrepieces because I love chandeliers and saw the most perfect design in a local shop. The florist we used was linked to the hotel but they were fantastic in meeting all of our requests.
My aunty is an incredible musician and singer so I wanted her to show off her talent in the ceremony. I also wanted to make sure my sister-in law completed a reading as she had a very distinctive american accent which I knew would grab everybody’s attention.
I decided to book Natasha because I saw her work at a friends wedding and loved her style. She put the myself and Sam at ease and took beautiful, natural photos. I’d definitely recommend her to future brides!
Their first dance song…
Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran. We chose this because of the lyrics and we hadn’t heard it as a first dance song before.
Their favourite memory of the day…
The vows were incredibly special and memorable however Jess Glynne, Michelle Keegan and Rachael Newsham’s video messages were a definite highlight of the day!
Words of wisdom…
If anything goes wrong laugh it off and don’t let it spoil your day!
